God Knows Me Personally

Hey!!!!

This week was so great. We had the mission tour which was actually the best thing ever and taught me that God knows me so well. The counselor from the area presidency, Elder Villanueva, and his wife, Hermana Villanueva, came and it was sooooo good. We got to go to the mission office 3 days in a row!!

The past couple weeks I've just felt so bummed and inadequate because we have a lot of great friends that have so much potential but aren't keeping their commitments. And then I just kinda took a whirlwind in my brain and was just beating myself up and I just really did not feel like a good missionary. The mission tour was literally an answer to my prayers!! The first day we talked about commitments, how we can help our friends keep them, and what to do when they aren't keeping them. The next day we talked about the members and how we can work together with them to bring about this great work! And then the last day Elder Villanueva talked about how a lot of times we feel inadequate, but the Lord hears all our prayers and sees our efforts. I reallllly needed to hear that. Also just the fact that I was struggling with how to help our friends keep commitments and that's what they talk about??? Yeah so basically the conference was just for me.

Other than that idk this week was good but I just felt like I lacked a lot this week. I just feel like there was something missing this week. This week will be better!!!

Also I can officially say I'll be home in a year (what??!!) so see you guys next year

Spiritual Thought

Mosiah 23 is a really good chapter and if I told you all my thoughts on it this email would be way too long so I'll try to sum it up. Verses 10-11 are super good I love those, but I want to talk about verses 21-24! Something cool about the scriptures (both the Bible and the Book of Mormon) is that they have what are called Redactors, which are the people that gather all the records and combine them. So a lot of the information and verses in the scriptures have been hand picked and included by someone who thought we could use that information. For example, in the Book of Mormon, after the book of Omni, everything switches to 3rd person perspective because now Mormon (the Redactor) is putting together all the records, and including what the Lord tells him to.

Anyways. So here are the verses I'm talking about:

21 Nevertheless the Lord seeth fit to chasten his people; yea, he trieth their patience and their faith.

22 Nevertheless—whosoever putteth his trust in him the same shall be lifted up at the last day. Yea, and thus it was with this people.

23 For behold, I will show unto you that they were brought into bondage, and none could deliver them but the Lord their God, yea, even the God of Abraham and Isaac and of Jacob.

24 And it came to pass that he did deliver them, and he did show forth his mighty power unto them, and great were their rejoicing.

Mormon is like "Hey, the Lord tries His people, but when we put our faith in Him, we'll be lifted up at the last day. How do I know that? Well thus it was with this people. I will show you that they relied on God, and He DID deliver them, and DID show forth His power unto them, and great was their rejoicing." These records were included in the Book of Mormon to show us what happens when we trust God, especially in the midst of our trials. Everything in scripture is there for a reason. My invitation to you while you study this week is to ask yourself "Why was this particular concept, principle, or event included in the scriptures?" And see how you can apply it to your own life.

see u next year friends!
