Yereidy
Hi!
Past the sappy stuff, this week was so hot I've never wanted to jump in water sooooo bad. All the little kids here are having kiddie pool parties and water activities and I want to be able to join so bad. A trip to Sand Hollow sounds realllllll nice right about now!!!!
Alright guys you know what happened this weekend. Yereidy's baptism!!!!!! Woohoo!!! This is gonna be kinda long fyi.
Of course right before the baptism I got sooooo sick but hey the Lord helped me out and I was all good to go when we started. Best baptism ever. For real. She is seriously such a special soul. The Spirit really filled the room. Tears shed. She had the biggest smile the whole time. I am so beyond thankful to be here and to have been able to get to know her.
Yereidy had been taught by 2 other sets of elders last year and she told us that they invited her to baptism and she said no, it wasn't her time. One of our first Sundays here, a member brought Yereidy to church. We didn't know anything about her at all, we asked her if we could meet with her the following week and she said yes!! After finding her in our area book and learning a little more about her, when we went to teach her, we invited her to be baptized and without hesitation she said yes. We met with her every week after that and she basically was teaching us!!! Because she's had a history with the church she already knew so much, and said she could truly say she now has a testimony of the gospel, that she could truly say this is her time with us! She's also super excited to work towards the temple and eventually eternal marriage!!!! She is just so awesome. At the baptism the relief society president gave her a welcome and gave her a huge hug. She said "This hug I gave you is huge, just imagine the party that's going on in heaven and the hug our Heavenly Father will give you." That brought it all into perspective for me. Why I'm here, why baptism is so important, why this gospel is important.
The priesthood is ultimately what sets this church apart from the rest. It's the priesthood, God's power and authority that have been restored on the earth, that allows us to have prophets with divine authority, be baptized in His name, partake of other sacred ordinances, and be able to receive all the blessings He has in store for us. I'm so thankful for the priesthood. I'm thankful to be here and let people know about the priesthood and how it allows God to work more abundantly in our lives. I had a different view of baptism when I first got to the mission. But now I know that baptism truly is the gate to eternal life, the first step on the covenant path. Baptism allows us to follow the example of Jesus Christ and be on the path to, in the future, make more covenants, or promises, with our Heavenly Father. I am so so thankful for this gospel, that has truly been restored in the same way Christ established it. I'm thankful for a merciful Savior who allows us to follow Him, and provides a way for us to eventually be like Him. I know this gospel changes lives, I know that Christ changes lives. I've not only seen it in my own life but I've seen it here, in real time, with all our friends here. I see Him helping us and our friends every day. I testify that He lives.
Yereidy has taught me that divine design is real and that I'm here at this time and in this place for a reason. I'm so thankful to be here.
Transfer news came and me and Hermana Thorpe are staying together here for another transfer. Yay I love Villa Esfuerzo!!
Spiritual Thought
Mosiah 16:7-9
7 And if Christ had not risen from the dead, or have broken the bands of death that the grave should have no victory, and that death should have no sting, there could have been no resurrection.
8 But there is a resurrection, therefore the grave hath no victory, and the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ.
9 He is the light and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death.
How amazing and special it is that we have a Savior that came to this earth to die for us so that we could live again. Resurrection is a gift that is given to all people, good or bad. That's cool!!! All of us will have the opportunity to receive salvation from death, and perfect, resurrected bodies. And to receive exaltation (living with our family and God forever), we have to follow the Light of the World, Christ, and His light never goes out. Never!!! Thank goodness the grave hath no victory!! I'm thankful for Jesus Christ giving me the opportunity to live not only now, but after this life as well.
Love you all so much. Stay safe!!!
