Hola!!!!

Hola!! I'm in the Dominican Republic!!!

I got here last Monday super early in the morning and it has been quite the adventure since then. I was sad to leave ny disrtrict at the CCM but we're all in the field now so that is super exciting!!!

My companion/trainer is Hermana Reategui. I LOVE HER. She is so amazing and we get along so well. All the sisters here are pretty fresh, she's only been out for 6 months, so we're kinda learning together. Her spanish is still in progress so she's always asking me for help hahaha. We're in Alma Rosa which I think technically counts as the city and its so great here!! The people are super nice!!

It has quite literally been a rollercoaster being here, I've seen the lows and the highs. The other day we were talked to this guy who the first thing he told us was that he was stabbed in the thigh and took a blow to the head and he had dried blood all over his hands and leg. He also told us some interactions he's had with girls that i dont think would be appropriate for this email lol. He's crazy. He always asked us what we would do in his situation with gross things and we would awkwardly laugh then try to get away but he wouldn't let us. Eventually he was so mesmorized by a picture of Mary Magdalene that we took a fast break and left. My comp doesnt understand spanish super well yet so she was lost during most of the conversation so she wasnt too worried but i was just kinda freaking out hoping he woudlnt kidnap or rob us because he was reaching that point hahsha. Just a typical day in the DR.

On the flip side though, we went to probably the nicest house in Alma Rosa for lunch on Friday. It is nicer than my own home and has the best view. And the food was sooooo good too. I didn't know such houses existed here. We were freaking out hahaha.

The work here is good!!! Basically everyone here is christian so it's nice but everyone is pretty dedicated to their religion, so that’s been kinda interesting to navigate for me. These people know the Bible like the back of their hand. And seriously every time we ask someone how they're doing they say "muy bien gracias a Dios." God is mentioned in every sentence before we even introduce ourselves. These people love God so much it's awesome. Also there are SO many Haitians here so I’ve been trying to learn Creole. Its coming along slowly but surely. I'll come back speaking like a pro just wait.

Anyways we're teaching this group of like 8 guys. We always pass by their work and they always stop us and ask us more questions. The other day I was reminded of what it must've felt like for Jesus when He was younger and was teaching people that were surrounding Him because that's basically what happens to us when we're there hahaha.

Spiritual Thought:
This week I was reading 2 Nephi 31!! It is the ultimate gospel of Jesus Christ chapter and is full of gold. Something I really like about this chapter is that it mentions the example of Jesus Christ. I love how verse 5 mentions that he was holy, the only perfect person to live, and was baptized. If he was perfect and got baptized then imagine how important it is for us to be baptized, being unholy and imperfect!! Christ is the ultimate example!!!
